Introduction to Web Scraping: Social Media

Websites and Social Media Platforms are veritable treasure troves of textual data that can tell us so much about language and society. This workshop will provide you with an overview of the tools you need, and options you have for scraping webpages and social media sites to collect and use that data. This workshop is intended for people new to web scraping and looking for how to get started. In the second half of the workshop, you will be collecting data from twitter. Some very basic familiarity with Python or another programming language will be beneficial. You will NOT be writing your own code, but to get the most out of the second half of this workshop, you need to be able to modify someone else’s code.
